A community library is the best gift a community can give itself. A best approach is when it is heritage - based, aimed at advancing a good cultural or indigenous call. The young, the youth and the elder citizens all find the library a great resource for social and mental nourishment.
Mwandihi is a long serving Wangulu Community Library volunteer. he is instrumental in building a culture of reading and responsible leisure time among the young people in the community. Mwandihi brings the values of peer stewardship, volunteering and dependable community youth.
Andiah envisions a literate and modern-day empowered community. She and her family committed to establishing a community library in 2021 in their rural home village in Kidundu, Vihiga County. Since then she has committed to financial and literacy materials to keep the libarry on. Today the library offers a safe and peaceful reading place to the learners and youths who flock Kidundu play ground for sports.
Joshua offered a family block at Wangulu Market in 2017 to serve as a Community Library and Resource Centre. He went further to renovate, offer internet and print services as well as updating the shelves with resource books. Today Kereda provides mentorship coaching and free consultancies at the library.
